Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 26, 2014

For this Sunday, January 26th, the focus for our meditation will be on Confidence.  Not too long ago I had an unfortunate incident where my home was accidentally damaged by construction activity on a nearby lot.  Initially it appeared the people involved were going to remediate the problem, but as weeks dragged on with no follow-up I became concerned they were reversing their initial stance and were going to leave me hanging out to dry.  Subsequent communication that turned contentious only further reinforced this impression and led to periodic cycles of fretful worry over how I would manage to get the ridiculously expensive repair done.  The problem gnawed at me, woke me up at night and began to relentlessly loop through my thoughts.  Around the same time I was introduced by a friend to the writings of Tosha Silver, a woman whose book, “Outrageous Openness,” was mentioned in a prior meditation post.  Her writing is captivating, witty and profound, and I recalled several stories where she spoke of calling in Divine Order at times when she faced some difficulty.  Tired of vacillating between anxiety and anger, I figured her method was worth a try.  I began and ended each day with a prayer, calling in Divine Order, and asking that the problem be resolved swiftly, easily, and with fairness for all parties.  Although I only superficially knew one of the individuals involved I was aware that he was experiencing some family troubles, and I prayed for him and his family, surrounding them in light each time.  Each time I found myself grinding my teeth over what had happened I remembered to pause, take a breath, and repeat my intention to hand the problem over to Divine Order.  Without fail when I did this I felt the anxiety lift, the anger dissipate, and a feeling of calm Confidence wash over me.  Gradually, the peaceful sense of Confidence remained for longer and longer periods.  I found myself willing to accept however Divine Order meant for this situation to be resolved with less of a personal ego stake in its outcome.  To my utter astonishment, the individual unexpectedly accepted full responsibility and arranged for a claim to be filed with his insurer.  The outcome only reinforced my belief in the principle of Divine Order and particularly the feeling of Confidence it affords for all who tap into that source.  While it may not have been as serious a problem as what others have faced, it confirms that when we allow Divine Order to fully flow into our life it relieves what otherwise seems like a foolish need to hold onto worry.  The resulting Confidence it brings fills us completely, leaving no room for bitterness and resentment.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us examine what burdens we may be clinging to that can be given over to Divine Order.  Let us ask that we be shown how to fill ourselves with the Confidence of knowing when we release our worries to Divine Order we ultimately are blessed beyond expectation.  Additionally, let us ask that the problems and challenges facing our nation as a whole also be handed over to Divine Order so we may move beyond them and face the future with Confidence.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am filled with a deep sense of Confidence that buffers me against worry and fear?  How does it feel in my body when recognize the presence of Divine Order in my life and the Confidence it brings?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 19, 2014

For this Sunday, January 19th, the focus for our meditation will be on Listening.  A number of years ago I was madly trying to maintain an insanely busy schedule.  I was traveling overseas several times a month, working part-time as a consultant in addition to a demanding full-time job, and going through the process of selling a home and getting ready to move.  The first signal that I was perhaps overloading my life was when I backed the car into the garage door one morning after having forgotten to raise it.  The second signal was when I experienced a slipped disk in my neck after lifting heavy boxes, triggering the first visit to an emergency room.  Despite these two warning signs I soldiered on, determined to get everything done myself.  The third warning was when I had an unfortunate encounter with a bungee cord that resulted in a second emergency room visit in a week and almost led to the loss of an eye.  It was while I was confined to strict bed rest following this third incident that my brother, who thankfully appeared on my doorstep to help finish the household move, made the sage comment, “God whispers to us first, and if we don’t Listen, he starts yelling.”  Those words have stayed with me ever since, and whenever I recognize a “warning” sign that appears in my life I have learned to Listen by stopping and assessing what may have become out of balance.  It is so easy to try to shoehorn more and more into our busy schedules, driving us to keep such a frenetic pace that we don’t take time to pause and Listen to Spirit (or God, or the Divine, however you wish to refer to this universal power).  There are many ways that Spirit tries to gently get our attention.  One of my favorite signals is whenever duplicates of the same numeral appear – e.g., when a digital clock reads “11:11” or “3:33.”  It serves as a pleasant reminder to stop and Listen for a moment to receive what Spirit wants to reveal.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us take time to pause and discover that inner quiet that allows us to truly Listen to what Spirit has to say.  Let us consider whether we are able to actually Listen and be receptive to all that Spirit is willing to disclose to us.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am able to find that inner quiet that heightens my ability to Listen?  How does it feel in my body when I take time to Listen to the world around me in order to hear a message from Spirit?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 12, 2014

For this Sunday, January 12th, the focus for our meditation will be on Release.  Studies on the increasing numbers of people living to the age of 100 or beyond have found a number of variables they seem to have in common.  While genetics likely has some impact on their chances of living a long, healthy and productive life there are a number of lifestyle factors that also appear to play a key role.  Mental attitude is one of these, and related to attitude is their ability to avoid stress.  Interestingly, however, was the fact that these centenarians had as many stressful events in their life as the rest of us.  The difference was in their ability to Release the stress and not linger or dwell in it.  By letting go of stress there is a physiological impact that not only improves our quality of life but more importantly our quality of physical health as well.  When we hold onto stress or amplify it through resulting anxiety it can have a physiologically toxic effect on our body.  In developing the ability to instead Release stress it increases our sense of well-being and overall happiness and contributes to a longer, healthier life.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us ask what we may want to Release in our life that we have been holding onto that adds to the sense of stress we experience.  May we be shown a healthier way to Release that which could otherwise create stress, freeing us to ultimately improve the quality and fruitfulness of our life.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am able to Release something that has been stuck?  How does it feel in my body when I experience a Release of that which has been troubling me?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., Jan. 5, 2014

For this Sunday, January 5th, the focus for our meditation will be on Potential.  The Dalai Lama recently said, “We all have the Potential to show others love and affection, but as we progress in our materialistic world, these values tend to remain dormant.  We can develop them on the basis of common sense, common experience and scientific findings.  The response to the recent tragedy in the Philippines is an example of how such values are awakened; people helped simply because others are suffering and in need of support.”  Each of us has an untapped Potential lying deep within that can either lie dormant or become awakened.  Sometimes experiences such as the Philippines tragedy may cause us to act in a way that allows us to recognize that untapped Potential.  But it need not take a tragedy to awaken our Potential.  Even the most mundane situations bring an opportunity for us to become aware of some motivation, calling, or talent we have within that is not being used.  In this first week of the new year let us use our meditation time to ask what is our Potential?  How may we find what lies within us waiting to be tapped that we have not yet discovered?  Additionally, may we extend this meditative offering to the entire country in asking what is our Potential as a nation?  What does the United States of America possess in the way of untapped Potential that we want to bring forward and manifest to reflect our country’s highest and best qualities?

Ask yourself how do I feel when I discover a hidden Potential I did not know I possessed?  How does it feel in my body when I experience a situation that reveals a Potential within me just waiting to blossom?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

As an added focus for our meditation this week let us also send the light of our prayers to those regions of the country being hit with record low temperatures and winter storms.  May all beings in those areas be given shelter from the dangerous conditions.
