Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 1, 2011

For this Sunday, May 1st, the focus for our meditation will be on Calm and Security. As a series of devastating storms produced a wide swath of destruction across the southeastern U.S. this week they left in their wake much more than just physical damage. Those who experience such traumatic events often are left with debilitating feelings of anxiety. They suffer from a hypersensitivity to sudden noises, movements, or changes and remain constantly vigilant against unseen threats they feel may momentarily strike. The stress and anxiety lead to disruptions in one’s ability to concentrate, to sleep, and to perform a diverse set of activities. It took some years but finally medical science realized how impactful the consequences of such stressful events can be and acknowledged its validity by creating the diagnostic category of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Public awareness of PTSD has grown with its prevalence among our returning veterans, but it is a disorder that extends beyond combat environments. Those who huddled in closets and waited as the storm lashed out around them can be left with the same set of symptoms as a result of the anxiety and stress they experienced. For them it may take quite a while before they once again feel Calm and Secure even in newly-constructed or repaired homes. As the states impacted by these storms work to physically rebuild their towns and help restore livelihoods, schooling, and government services we want to ask that through our prayers those residents be surrounded with feelings of Calm and Security that allow them to once again resume their lives in peace and safety.

As a reminder, we typically form as a group in our focused meditation every Sunday from 12:15 to 12:30 pm (Eastern time) and return to bring more energy to the same theme throughout the week as time permits. If you are unable to participate at that particular time there are instructions posted on how to energetically contribute at either an earlier or later time (please see "Instructions for Meditating at Alternate Dates or Times" posted on August 21, 2008). A few minutes before 12:15 you may want to get into your meditation posture and begin the relaxation phase.

Stage 1:
Sit (or lay down) so that you are relaxed and comfortable but your spine is straight and aligned over your pelvis (if seated). Begin by taking several slow, deep breaths. Follow the sensation of the breath down into your body. Breathe into your spine, your hips, and then your legs. Feel the breath reach your feet on the floor and then feel the connection through your feet to the earth's energy. Draw the earth's energy up through your feet into your body. Feel your body fill completely with this energy from your breath and the earth. Invite your own personal spiritual guides to join you in this meditation. Ask for those in the spiritual realm (especially the nation's Founding Fathers) who want to assist us in this effort to be present. If you have trouble feeling centered and fully in your body or feeling grounded to the earth ask Guidance to help you.

Stage 2:
Stay relaxed and begin to make a connection with the others in the group by perceiving that we are present in the same room and formed in a circle. Feel yourself make contact with the person on each side of you in the circle by taking their hand -- one to the right and one to the left. Feel the energy of the group grow as you make this connection. Recognize there are groups all over who are doing similar activities with the same intention. We are connected to them as well as to each other. Feel the grid or network that is created from this energetic connection. We receive energy from it as we feed energy to it.

Stage 3:
Place a brilliant white light over the center of the country. Extend blue rays out from the center of that light in the four directions (north, south, east, and west). The blue rays fill the country from border to border and sea to sea. Connect to the energetic grid or network created across the circle. Use that grid to direct energy to the manitou of the nation (see "Meditation Instructions for Sun., Sept. 7, 2008" for explanation) with the intent of sending the energy of Calm and Security across the nation.

The way to do this is to perceive in your body how the quality of Calm and Security feels. Ask yourself how do I feel when I have a sense of being surrounded with Calm and Security that I know is protecting me? How does it feel in my body when I am aware of feeling Calm and Secure in my environment? Hold that sensation and allow it to intensify as you feed that energy to the grid or network with each breath.

Stage 4:
Close by disconnecting from the group circle. Feel as though you release the hand of the person next to you and feel yourself break from the group.

Stage 5:
Thank your guidance and those in the spiritual realm for coming to assist you in this endeavor. Ask them to continue this work from their plane on your behalf. If you are able, you may want to repeat this process throughout the week, focusing on bringing light and energy to the meditation topic. When you do, connect to the same network or grid of energy created by the group at the original meditation session. Direct your intention to help support and grow that group energy. Be sure to disconnect from the group at the end.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 24, 2011

For this Sunday, April 24th, the focus for our meditation will be on Effort. I recently came across a quotation by a woman I greatly admire, Eleanor Roosevelt. She said, "Surely, in the light of history, it is more intelligent to hope rather than to fear, to try rather than not to try. For one thing we know beyond all doubt: Nothing has ever been achieved by a person who says, 'It can't be done.'" Such words encourage us to step out of our doubt and uncertainty and make the Effort needed to take on a challenge we might otherwise forego. Whether it is fear of failure or feeling overwhelmed by a seemingly insurmountable task, there are so many potential obstacles that can prevent us from tackling a difficult endeavor. Yet inaction most certainly dooms us to failure, for we are held back from even making an attempt. In our meditation this week we want to ask where in our life we may be avoiding taking that first step and making the Effort required to take on a daunting challenge or where we may need to apply more Effort to carry through on a task we have begun.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, connect to the circle of others participating in this project, and create the brilliant, star-like light over the nation. Extend blue rays from the center of this light to the nation's four borders and then connect to the grid or matrix that extends from the circle.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am successfully able to apply a level of Effort required to overcome inertia in my life? What does it feel like when I am able to summon the Effort to carry through a task to completion? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 17, 2011

For this Sunday, April 17th, the focus for our meditation will be on Manifestation. Several years ago a very popular book and movie were released called, "The Secret." They advocated an age-old metaphysical principal that one's thoughts can impact and subsequently alter the world around you. Being a "What the Bleep?" fan I was eager to see the film, hoping it might contain the same level of thought-provoking wisdom and profundity. Instead, I was disappointed. From my perspective the film seemed heavily weighted toward the Manifestation of material goods and wealth. While I have no aversion to prosperity it seems to me that one's ability to Manifest things in the universe should extend far beyond the accumulation of mere material possessions. How then should we use our ability for Manifestation? That is a question each of us needs to ponder individually, and I would ask that in our prayer and meditation this week we spend time considering what we want to Manifest in our lives and what does it reflect about our priorities and character?

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, connect to the circle of others participating in this project, and create the brilliant star-like light over the nation. Extend blue rays from the center of this light to the nation's four borders and then connect to the grid or matrix that extends from the circle.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am aware of my ability to Manifest change around me? What does it feel like when I am able to Manifest something that reflects my greater purpose in this life? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation and the world. Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 10, 2011

For this Sunday, April 10th, the focus for our meditation will be on Self-awareness. To be fully Self-aware requires that one recognize the darker side of ourselves that we often prefer not to admit exists. Our nation certainly has had its share of a dark past with the legacy of our treatment of indigenous peoples or the shame of slavery. Rather than ignore these flaws and pretend they never occurred real healing comes when we are able to acknowledge they are a part of our history, albeit without question a less desirable aspect. It is through this acceptance that we ensure they remain in the past. Our awareness of these past blights of character drives us to vow never to return to such deplorable conduct. It is the same with individuals. We each have a dark side, some facet of our personality or character that we perhaps loathe or that makes us feel ashamed, something that we would definitely prefer others never knew about us. Yet, if we are to heal that inner portion that remains from having made mistakes we must be honest in our self-appraisal and admit what we have done, even if only to ourselves. This is not to say we want to continually beat ourselves up for our flaws. There is also an important place for forgiveness that is essential for healing to occur, but we need to first take the step of acknowledging that aspect of our inner self that is hidden from others in order to let go of it. This week in our meditation we want to look deep inside ourselves and bring to consciousness those parts we may dislike. This honest Self-awareness then allows for real forgiveness and helps motivate us to become more like the better self we want others to believe we truly are.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I have an honest Self-awareness of my flaws of character? What does it feel like when my Self-awareness helps me recognize my failures but also allows for forgiveness so I can move on? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation and the world. Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., Apr. 3, 2011

For this Sunday, April 3rd, the focus for our meditation will be on Commitment. To be Committed to something, whether it be a project or cause, sometimes requires that you reprioritize or even subordinate your own personal ambitions in order to achieve the greater goal at hand. When we make a Commitment we are declaring we will stay the course and see things through to completion no matter what it takes. The difficulty some of us find ourselves in is we tend to spread ourselves too thin and then feel the Commitment has become an imposition or possibly even a source of resentment. Such moments force us to reassess how we allocate our time and resources and can lead us to make hard choices. We realize despite our best intentions we can’t do it all and subsequently decide to discard some activities or projects that don’t help us progress to where we want to be in life. This week in our meditation we want to look at the Commitments we have made and see what they say about how we have prioritized our life goals. Are we Committed to those things that reflect our higher purpose, or do we need to perhaps restructure the way we have focused our time and effort? In our meditation we also want to examine the Commitments made by this country and ask that they, too, come to reflect our highest goals as a nation.

As a reminder, we typically form as a group in our focused meditation every Sunday from 12:15 to 12:30 pm (Eastern time) and return to bring more energy to the same theme throughout the week as time permits.
