Meditation Instructions for Sun., Oct. 31, 2010

For this Sunday, October 31st, the focus for our meditation will be on Integrity and Ethics. Over the past couple of weeks as we have approached the upcoming elections the volume of negative campaign ads has appeared to skyrocket. These can be incredibly irritating and make me question what value they bring – they certainly do not seem to inform voters in any helpful way and instead reflect a lack of Integrity and Ethics. I would rather have candidates spend their campaign funds on ads that help educate voters on key issues and make clear their stand on those matters. My preference would be if candidates are unable to clearly promote themselves in a manner that does not malign their opponents that they instead be required to donate those advertising funds to a charitable cause. While I realize this is likely unrealistic I also know we can impact the nation’s consciousness through meditation. As Election Day nears we want to focus our prayer and meditation efforts on asking that voters recognize the value of Integrity and Ethics in assessing candidates and choose wisely in recording their votes. Additionally, we want to ask that those who are elected recognize the importance of Integrity and Ethics and make them an integral part of service to their constituents.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, connect to the circle of others participating in this project, and create the brilliant star-like light over the nation. Extend blue rays from the center of this light to the nation's four borders and then connect to the grid or matrix that extends from the circle.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I recognize the importance of Integrity and Ethics? How does it feel when I act with Integrity and Ethics and realize others around me do the same? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., Oct. 24, 2010

For this Sunday, October 24th, the focus for our meditation will be on Empathy. Past measures of intelligence focused on such cognitive abilities as abstract reasoning, spatial imagery, word and sentence comprehension, etc. In more modern times, however, a new form of intelligence has come into prominence – one labeled as Emotional Intelligence. This refers to the ability to accurately identify the emotions of others as well as those feelings we ourselves experience. It is fundamental to our ability to understand and deal appropriately with others and in truly knowing ourselves. To have Empathy implies one acts with consideration for what others are feeling and how our behavior will impact them. I don’t know if it is our increasing interaction with computer technology or some other factor, but it seems as though the quality of Empathy is waning in our society. Those who bully others, for instance, clearly lack the ability to appreciate how their actions can impact their victims. They seem to regard this behavior as entertainment with callous disregard for the damage it may cause. In our meditation this week we want to ask that people across this country gain a greater desire for Empathy and consequently act with greater consideration for others.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am able to have Empathy and appreciate the emotions of others? How does it feel when I act with Empathy and consideration for the feelings of others? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., Oct. 17, 2010

For this Sunday, October 17th, the focus for our meditation will be on Synchronicity. The term "coincidence" is often interpreted as referring to unrelated events that appear connected through happenstance or sheer luck. In certain usages, however, the term implies something far different. For instance, when two objects in space touch at the same point they are said to be "co-incident." The meaning that is conveyed is one of spatial proximity or alignment and does not necessarily suggest this occurs through mere accident. In life we all too often label an unexpected relationship between disparate events as "coincidence." Without disputing that purely accidental alignments can happen I believe we may too frequently attribute such events to chance. This then ignores the possibility of the influence of a divine order in our lives. Something makes you late in leaving for work in the morning, and you consequently discover had you been on time you could have been involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the highway you travel each day. We typically chalk that up to "coincidence," but when the same events are considered to have occurred for some purpose it places things in a different light. In acknowledging the presence of Synchronicity in our life we recognize our connection to all things in the universe. The "co-incidence" of two occurrences coming together in a surprising or unexpected way can then present an opportunity for appreciation of the presence of Spirit in our life. Consider what events have taken place that you may have attributed to luck and ask instead whether they may represent a divine influence. This week in our meditation we want to examine how Synchronicity can serve to remind us of our connection to the Divine and in so doing deepen and strengthen that bond.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am aware of the occurrence of Synchronicity in my life? How does it feel when I recognize the presence of Spirit in the Synchronicities that I observe? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., Oct. 10, 2010

For this Sunday, October 10th, the focus for our meditation will be on Security. With the recent reports of an increased potential for terrorist attacks on American and European cities we will make a slight departure from our usual focus to bring our meditative efforts to bear on this issue. Each week at the beginning of our meditation session we create the image of a brilliant star and raise it as a source of light over the entire country. The blue bands or rays that we then extend from the center of that star to the four borders are used to secure this light in place so it continues to shine over the nation. This week we want to focus on making this star-like light as luminous and radiant as possible - increasing its brightness even more as it shines down on us. After raising this star-like light above the country we want to then ask that this light help identify those with ill intent who seek to take violent action to further their terrorist cause. Think of it as a searchlight that seeks out those who wish to harm the nation and innocent citizens. When I do this practice it brings to mind the old Edward G. Robinson and Jimmy Cagney movies where the prison yard searchlight scans the grounds before lighting on someone trying to make their escape. If we focus on using this star-like light to illuminate those who seek to harm our country it can bring their intent to the attention of others so they can be stopped and prevented from acting. Through this week's meditative practice we seek to increase our nation's Security and protect our citizens from harm.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am aware of the presence of safety and Security in my life? How does it feel when I appreciate a sense of real Security that keeps me safe from harm? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., Oct. 3, 2010

For this Sunday, October 3rd, the focus for our meditation will be on Self-Knowledge. In ancient Egypt students in the Mystery School tradition would pursue a course of study that became progressively more challenging. At each stage the student would be initiated into the next level of the temple and allowed deeper access into the mysteries and wisdom it contained. When ready to progress to the next level the student would pass through a door above which a saying was inscribed which represented that aspect of the student’s journey. Above one of the innermost doors the inscription read, “Know who you are.” In having Self-Knowledge of who we are we come to understand what our purpose is in this lifetime. We recognize our challenges as well as our gifts and are aided in understanding what we need to overcome, resolve, correct, or achieve in this life. Sometimes acquiring true Self-Knowledge takes an entire lifetime and is never fully completed. But with each deeper insight into who we are we move one step closer to the realization of what is ultimately possible for us to become. This week in our meditation we want to reflect on the notion of Self-Knowledge and ask that we be given a clearer understanding of our gifts, who we are, and ultimately why we are here and in so doing be drawn closer to our Higher Self.

As a reminder, we typically form as a group in our focused meditation every Sunday from 12:15 to 12:30 pm (Eastern time) and return to bring more energy to the same theme throughout the week as time permits. If you are unable to participate at that particular time there are instructions posted on how to energetically contribute at either an earlier or later time (please see "Instructions for Meditating at Alternate Dates or Times" posted on August 21, 2008). A few minutes before 12:15 you may want to get into your meditation posture and begin the relaxation phase.

Stage 1:
Sit (or lay down) so that you are relaxed and comfortable but your spine is straight and aligned over your pelvis (if seated). Begin by taking several slow, deep breaths. Follow the sensation of the breath down into your body. Breathe into your spine, your hips, and then your legs. Feel the breath reach your feet on the floor and then feel the connection through your feet to the earth's energy. Draw the earth's energy up through your feet into your body. Feel your body fill completely with this energy from your breath and the earth. Invite your own personal spiritual guides to join you in this meditation. Ask for those in the spiritual realm (especially the nation's Founding Fathers) who want to assist us in this effort to be present. If you have trouble feeling centered and fully in your body or feeling grounded to the earth ask Guidance to help you.

Stage 2:
Stay relaxed and begin to make a connection with the others in the group by perceiving that we are present in the same room and formed in a circle. Feel yourself make contact with the person on each side of you in the circle by taking their hand -- one to the right and one to the left. Feel the energy of the group grow as you make this connection. Recognize there are groups all over who are doing similar activities with the same intention. We are connected to them as well as to each other. Feel the grid or network that is created from this energetic connection. We receive energy from it as we feed energy to it.

Stage 3:
Place a brilliant white light over the center of the country. Extend blue rays out from the center of that light in the four directions (north, south, east, and west). The blue rays fill the country from border to border and sea to sea. Connect to the energetic grid or network created across the circle. Use that grid to direct energy to the manitou of the nation (see "Meditation Instructions for Sun., Sept. 7, 2008" for explanation) with the intent of sending the energy of Self-Knowledge across the nation.

The way to do this is to perceive in your body how the quality of Self-Knowledge feels. Ask yourself how do I feel when I achieve some insight as to who I am and the gifts I bring into the world? How does it feel in my body when I gain a deeper understanding of Self-Knowledge and my purpose in life? Hold that sensation and allow it to intensify as you feed that energy to the grid or network with each breath.

Stage 4:
Close by disconnecting from the group circle. Feel as though you release the hand of the person next to you and feel yourself break from the group.

Stage 5:
Thank your guidance and those in the spiritual realm for coming to assist you in this endeavor. Ask them to continue this work from their plane on your behalf. If you are able, you may want to repeat this process throughout the week, focusing on bringing light and energy to the meditation topic. When you do, connect to the same network or grid of energy created by the group at the original meditation session. Direct your intention to help support and grow that group energy. Be sure to disconnect from the group at the end.
