Meditation Instructions for Sun., June 27, 2010

For this Sunday, June 27th, the focus for our meditation will be on Perspective. There is a psychological concept known as "reframing" in which one takes a situation or context and tries to see it in a different, often more positive, "frame." A simple example would be when someone cuts you off in traffic. Rather than becoming angry and instantly tagging the other person as rude and inconsiderate, you try to reinterpret the situation and raise the possibility there was an emergency and they were rushing to get to a hospital. This allows someone to adopt a new Perspective on a situation and can be instrumental in maintaining a healthy emotional as well as physical state of being. In our meditation this week we want to examine whether there are aspects to our life that could benefit by being seen from a different Perspective. Is there a situation with work, friends, family, our financial state, etc., that may seem perpetually stuck as a contributing source of negativity in our life? If so, take this opportunity to try and reframe this situation into an alternative that is more positive. Try to gain a new Perspective on things and see what a difference it can make.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, connect to the circle of others participating in this project, and create the brilliant star-like light over the nation. Extend blue rays from the center of this light to the nation's four borders and then connect to the grid or matrix that extends from the circle.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am seeing things with a fresh Perspective? How does it feel when I am able to adopt a different view that brings a more positive Perspective? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., June 20, 2010

For this Sunday, June 20th, the focus for our meditation will again be on Cleansing. This week, however, we want to acknowledge the symbolism of water as representing our emotions. Like water, emotions can run deep within us or rush out in a sudden explosion of feelings. Similarly, they can also become contaminated and blocked by "sludge." As we continue to focus our efforts on sending Cleansing light to the waters of the Gulf Coast region we want to examine where we may carry our own internal emotional sludge. What are the sources in our life that emotionally contaminate us? What holds us back and makes us cling to rather than release these blockages? This week in our prayer and meditation efforts we want to send light and energy to Cleanse the waters of the Gulf Coast and at the same time direct this Cleansing light to help clear our own internal emotional body of water.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, connect to the circle of others participating in this project, create the brilliant star-like light over the nation and especially direct the brightness of its rays over the Gulf Coast. Extend blue rays from the center of this light to the nation's four borders and then connect to the grid or matrix that extends from the circle.

Ask yourself how does it feel in my body when I am being Cleansed? How does it feel when I am able to release and Cleanse my body of what blocks me emotionally? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation and especially the Gulf Coast.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., June 13, 2010

For this Sunday, June 13th, the focus for our meditation will be on Cleansing. The situation in the Gulf Coast with the oil spill appears to be worsening in magnitude and scope well beyond initial estimates. I recently read an account that claimed this spill would reach eight times the size of the Exxon Valdez disaster. It is unlikely we will ever know the true volume of how much oil has been released into the ocean, but it doesn't matter. Our focus now needs to be on efforts to repair and prevent further damage. One of my teachers, Rev. Rosalyn L. Bruyere, has spoken of an effort years ago to clean up the then badly polluted Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Official estimates said the clean up effort would take at least ten years (and millions of dollars) to complete. Despite the skepticism of such "officials" one group chose instead to pray over the river. As a result, the clean-up effort was vastly accelerated and accomplished in only a fraction of the time and cost. This led to a mantra that Rev. Bruyere often cites, which is, "The solution to pollution is dilution." We can truly make a difference in the Gulf region by sending prayers that the contamination in these waters be diluted and Cleansed. The energy of our prayer and meditation is able to dilute the massive and widely dispersed oil spill in a way that skimmer boats never can. We also want to ask in our meditation efforts this week that the animals and people who depend on these ocean waters be protected and allowed to thrive once more.

How does it feel when I do something that Cleanses and rejuvenates my body? Then send the energy and intention of that feeling to the grid for the nation and especially the Gulf Coast.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., June 6, 2010

For this Sunday, June 6th, the focus for our meditation will be on Forgiveness. I once heard a wonderful African teacher named Sobonfu Somé [whose web site has been added to the Meditation Project links] use the following analogy to make a very insightful point about anger and hatred. She said when we hold onto anger or hatred towards someone it is as though we invited that person over for tea and decide to serve them a poisoned drink to get back at them. We pour two servings of tea in the kitchen and then place poison in the cup for the other person but as we carry them into the living room we forget which one has the poison and we drink it instead. In other words, by being consumed with such hatred and anger we only end up poisoning ourselves. This week we want to examine where we may be harming ourselves by being unable to let go of hurt, anger or hatred. This extends well beyond just interpersonal relationships. Some people hold hatred for others of a particular race or ethnicity. Some people are incredibly angry about issues such as what they see their government officials doing or not doing. Regardless of the source, this is a powerfully destructive emotion every human being has to deal with in their lifetime. In our prayer and meditation this week we want to ask that we be shown how to release any anger or hatred and instead find a means to extend true Forgiveness to others and ultimately to ourselves.

As a reminder, we typically form as a group in our focused meditation every Sunday from 12:15 to 12:30 pm (Eastern time) and return to bring more energy to the same theme throughout the week as time permits. If you are unable to participate at that particular time there are instructions posted on how to energetically contribute at either an earlier or later time (please see "Instructions for Meditating at Alternate Dates or Times" posted on August 21, 2008). A few minutes before 12:15 you may want to get into your meditation posture and begin the relaxation phase.

Stage 1:
Sit (or lay down) so that you are relaxed and comfortable but your spine is straight and aligned over your pelvis (if seated). Begin by taking several slow, deep breaths. Follow the sensation of the breath down into your body. Breathe into your spine, your hips, and then your legs. Feel the breath reach your feet on the floor and then feel the connection through your feet to the earth's energy. Draw the earth's energy up through your feet into your body. Feel your body fill completely with this energy from your breath and the earth. Invite your own personal spiritual guides to join you in this meditation. Ask for those in the spiritual realm (especially the nation's Founding Fathers) who want to assist us in this project to be present. If you have trouble feeling centered and fully in your body or feeling grounded to the earth ask Guidance to help you.

Stage 2:
Stay relaxed and begin to make a connection with the others in the group by perceiving that we are present in the same room and formed in a circle. Feel yourself make contact with the person on each side of you in the circle by taking their hand -- one to the right and one to the left. Feel the energy of the group grow as you make this connection. Recognize there are groups all over who are doing similar activities with the same intention. We are connected to them as well as to each other. Feel the grid or network that is created from this energetic connection. We receive energy from it as we feed energy to it.

Stage 3:
Place a brilliant white light over the center of the country. Extend blue rays out from the center of that light in the four directions (north, south, east, and west). The blue rays fill the country from border to border and sea to sea. Connect to the energetic grid or network created across the circle. Use that grid to direct energy to the manitou of the nation [see "Meditation Instructions for Sun., Sept. 7, 2008" for explanation] with the intent of sending the energy of Forgiveness across the nation.

The way to do this is to perceive in your body how the quality of Forgiveness feels. Ask yourself how do I feel when I am able to Forgive myself or others? How does it feel in my body when I am aware others have extended Forgiveness to me? Hold that sensation and allow it to intensify as you feed that energy to the grid or network with each breath.

Stage 4:
Close by disconnecting from the group circle. Feel as though you release the hand of the person next to you and feel yourself break from the group.

Stage 5:
Thank your guidance and those in the spiritual realm for coming to assist you in this endeavor. Ask them to continue this work from their plane on your behalf throughout the week. If you are able, you may want to repeat this process throughout the week, focusing on bringing light and energy to the meditation topic. When you do, connect to the same network or grid of energy created by the group at the original meditation session. Direct your intention to help support and grow that group energy. Be sure to disconnect from the group at the end.
