Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 23, 2014

For this Sunday, February 23rd, the focus for our meditation will be on Curiosity. At age 77, Eleanor Roosevelt wrote, “Learning and living, they’re really the same thing, aren’t they?  There is no experience from which you cannot learn something, and the purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.  You can do that only if you have Curiosity, an unquenchable spirit of adventure.”  It is the nature of Curiosity to continually want to expand and to explore the unknown.  Rather than being satisfied with the status quo, Curiosity nudges us to ask what else is possible, and to be willing to risk failure if we try new avenues.  It is essential to the vibrancy of our life to remain Curious and to never feel as though we have already learned everything that we need to know.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us consider whether we have sufficient Curiosity, or have we become complacent with the way things are and forgotten how to seek new experiences?  Let us ask to be shown new ways to examine life with a spirit of Curiosity that will open up an endless realm of possibilities for us to pursue.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I experience Curiosity about something I would like to learn more about?  How does it feel in my body when I am willing to let go of the known and allow Curiosity to lead me to explore the unknown?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 16, 2014

For this Sunday, February 16th, the focus for our meditation will be on Patience. Two unrelated incidents involving shootings have caused a great deal of controversy in our nation.  In one, a man was shot while texting in a movie theater.  In another, a man was shot after someone objected to the loud music blaring from his car.  Two lives were lost but even more lives were ruined when you consider the consequences for the perpetrators, as well as how they have drastically altered the life of the loved ones left behind from such tragedies.  From the clarity provide by hindsight neither incident makes any sense whatsoever.  However, I can certainly relate to the initial moment of irritation they may have produced.  People who use their phones in a darkened movie theater do create a distraction for those around them.  I have also felt the annoyance of having my teeth vibrate from an unbelievably loud nearby car stereo.  But neither incident deserves the level of response they subsequently generated.  It is so easy in our hectic world to allow ourselves to be irritated at what we perceive to be the inconsiderate behavior of others but letting that serve as an impetus for violence is never acceptable.  Rather than leap to a very regrettable action we would be far better served to pause, take a deep breath, and ask for Patience.  Every single one of us can likely identify with the victims and the accused.  We have all done things we later realized may have been inconsiderate, and we have all found ourselves aggravated by others for little cause.  This nation is in desperate need of more Patience to avoid similar violent acts.  In our prayer and meditation let us consider those times when we have been quick to judge and allow our tempers to flare, and let us ask for an increase in Patience to instead subdue those feelings.  Let all people across this nation be filled with the capacity for greater Patience and understanding so such tragedies may be averted.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I pause before acting and replace irritation with Patience?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to subdue my initial annoyance at a situation with greater Patience?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 9, 2014

For this Sunday, February 9th, the focus for our meditation will be on Righteousness. For some, the term Righteousness can have a sort of “hellfire and brimstone” feel to it.  Righteousness might remind one of Charlton Heston, coming down off the mountain as Moses carrying the stone tablets and chastising his followers.  But I like to think of Righteousness as being in “right order” with God or the Divine.  What brings us into right order with God?  Is it doing good works, being honest, or following our “spiritual path” the best we can?  I like to think being in right order is fairly simple as exemplified by the Golden Rule maxim; in other words, treating others as we wish to be treated.  When we behave in this manner we acknowledge the spark of God in each of us and give a nod to the Divine that connects us all.  Sounds simple, doesn’t it?  But it can be incredibly hard to remember this in those moments of life when we encounter someone unpleasant.  Behaving in a Righteous manner requires us to set aside how we may feel and rise above the inclination to respond in a like fashion.  Recognizing the Divine presence and behaving in a way that acknowledges that helps to bring us into right order.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us consider what steps we can take in our life to bring ourselves into right order and demonstrate the Righteousness that reflects our common Divine connection.  Let us ask to be shown how to make our conduct more Righteous and less self-serving so we strengthen our patterned behavior to be more aligned with Divine right order.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I behave with Righteousness and in a manner that reflects Divine right order?  How does it feel in my body when the desire to treat others as I wish to be treated brings a sense of Righteousness?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 2, 2014

For this Sunday, February 2nd, the focus for our meditation will be on Navigation.  This past week I attended a “master class” for energy healers taught by Rev. Rosalyn L. Bruyere and Qi Gong Master Ken Weintrub.  While some attendees might have anticipated receiving detailed, step-by-step instructions on some new, advanced healing technique instead we received something far more valuable. We were taught how to figure out our own healing protocols for the unique circumstance presented by each patient.  It reminded me of graduate school, where rather than only becoming imbued with scads of book knowledge I was essentially taught how to go through the rest of life teaching myself.  Grad school did expose me to some research techniques but mostly was about developing a thinking process that would help me Navigate my own way through a particular problem.  Sometimes people want to be given specific direction, and to have an external authority tell them what and how something should be done.  But life isn’t about following someone else’s path – it is about learning how to Navigate our own way.  Yes, there can be some trepidation in stepping out on an uncharted course, and there may be instances where an occasional wrong turn is taken, but in the end there is much more satisfaction from having eventually figured it out on our own.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us consider how we are proceeding on the path of this life.  Do we need to rely more on our own sense of Navigation, or are we blindly doing what we think others expect?  Let us ask that we be given assistance in developing the Navigation skills that will allow us to step out on our own path and find our way with joyful anticipation of what awaits us.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am able to Navigate my own way down a path?  How does it feel in my body when I trust my own sense of Navigation in figuring out where to go?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
