Meditation Instructions for Sun., March 27, 2016

For this Sunday, March 27th, the focus for our meditation will be on Integration.  In the annual tradition commemorating Holy Thursday, Pope Francis made a powerful statement by choosing to wash the feet of refugees of different faiths.  These people had been forced to leave their own countries and flee to a migrant camp in Italy to try and start a new life.  Pope Francis purposely selected not just Christian but also Muslim and Hindu refugees to emphasize the need for better Integration.  He declared that we are all “children of the same God” and added, “We want to live in peace, Integrated.”  His act was a direct countermeasure to the ugliness and divisiveness of the recent attack in Brussels.  Terrorists seek to win by throwing people into a state of fear that drives them apart and sets brother against brother.  Out of fear people begin to feel suspicious of others not like them and want to wall off those groups from their own.  Even though this is happening on a global front we have the same issues here within our own country.  Here people seek to drive wedges between groups because of differences in race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual preference, etc.  We cannot be strong as a nation if we allow such divisions to take place.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us consider if our actions help to Integrate our society or bring separation instead.  May we remember that we are indeed all children of God and ask to be shown ways to help better Integrate all peoples across this nation.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I recognize the importance of being Integrated rather than separated from others?  How does it feel in my body when I seek to be more fully Integrated with others who may differ from me?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., March 20, 2016

For this Sunday, March 20th, the focus for our meditation will be on Potential.  I recently heard a talk by a special education teacher in which he explained that if he were to teach his students to the level at which they and others believe they can function that would be all they would achieve.  Instead, he purposely teaches them to a level just beyond that, and although it often requires immense patience, time and again the students exceed expectations and demonstrate a previously untapped Potential to acquire new skills.  This holds true for all of us.  If we set boundaries for ourselves in terms of what we think we can achieve or how well we can perform, it is highly unlikely we will go beyond that.  The key to recognizing our own greater Potential is to think creatively.  What if I could perform that task even better than I ever have before?  What if I were to find myself without limitations – how might that alter the results of what I am trying to achieve?  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us consider if we are artificially placing limits on ourselves that if removed gave us the freedom to reach an even greater Potential in our life.  Let us also ask what do we see in terms of the future for our country as a global power with the ability to represent all the best we can offer and what changes do we need to make across this land to help us reach that greater Potential?

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I find I am able to exceed expectations and reach a new Potential?  How does it feel in my body when I realize I have the greater Potential to achieve more than I ever have before?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., March 13, 2016

For this Sunday, March 13th, the focus for our meditation will be on Compliments.  Insults are not solely the possession of political campaigns.  Much of our entertainment in the form of television comedies and movies is also based on insults as characters try to one-up each other with critical remarks deemed wittier than the next.  Our constant exposure to criticism and insults can have a negative effect by slowly skewing our thinking and making us more prone to viewing the world through a harsher lens.  We consequently find it easier to recognize the bad rather than the good in someone.  Seeing how liberally people hurl insults at others can make us feel permitted to do the same.  As a result, this never-ending wave of negative, critical thought becomes more pervasive.  One way to disrupt this pattern is to consciously try to find something positive to offer in our remarks.  Admittedly, it can be a challenge in some situations, but by forcing ourselves to glean something Complimentary about another individual it can actually alter how we feel about them.  Rather than denigrating someone for being too ignorant, too ugly, or too whatever, we see them instead as being happy or generous or thoughtful.  Imagine if our society were to experience such a shift that everyone began identifying positive, kind things to say about others rather than jump to criticism?  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us ask to be shown ways to practice this in our own life.  May we be guided to see through a kinder lens that encourages us to offer Compliments rather than criticism.  May the energy of our meditation help bring a wave of positive thinking that negates the insults that seem so prevalent and allow our nation to show its kinder, gentler side.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I receive a Compliment rather than criticism from others?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to recognize the positive attributes of someone and be willing to share that with them via a Compliment?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., March 6, 2016

For this Sunday, March 6th, the focus for our meditation will be on Beauty.  There is a video circulating on social media in which a photographer approaches individuals and asks to take their picture.  Just as they are ready to snap the photograph they tell the person they are looking for images that are Beautiful.  It is interesting to see how people react to this statement.  Some seem suspicious and don’t want to believe the photographer, others are moved to tears, and many completely brighten when being told someone sees Beauty in them.  Right now the world and nation seem so filled with ugliness, hatred and discord.  It is easy to become sucked into that darkness and feel discouraged or perhaps want to respond with equal visceral negativity.  The only way to counter the ugliness that is present is to instead fill the space around us with Beauty.  It doesn’t require any makeover in terms of physical appearance.  Real inner Beauty is something we project when we are filled with light and the more positive emotions such as hope, love and compassion.  In our prayer and meditation time this week let us consciously seek to bring Beauty into the world through our thoughts, words and actions.  Rather than react with negativity when we encounter ugliness may we be moved to neutralize it with Beauty instead.  Let us be mindful of what we project to our surroundings and find ways to be filled with a light that will emanate Beauty to those around us and more positively influence them to mirror the same.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I recognize the Beauty I possess that goes far beyond physical appearance?  How does it feel in my body when I am aware of the Beauty that comes from being completely filled with light?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
