Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 28, 2013

For this Sunday, April 28th, the focus for our meditation will be on Flow.  When we experience trauma or turmoil in our personal lives or as a nation, it is easy to become stuck in a response pattern that is not helpful.  Some people find themselves consumed with grief or rage or other “negative” emotions and then find it difficult to release them.  While as human beings it is normal to experience the highs as well as lows of our emotional life it can be a hindrance to our development if we hold on to a particular state and are unwilling to let go of it.  As a result, we can allow that emotional response to have more of an impact in our life and perhaps prevent us from moving on.  It is as if a fish in turbulent waters tried to remain stationary and resist the Flow around them.  By battling the current the fish expends all its energy in what inevitably becomes a futile effort.  People can similarly waste energy trying to resist the changes that life events can force on us.  Rather than stubbornly wanting to hold on to the past it would be far easier if we just let the surge of life carry us along.  Going with the Flow doesn't necessarily mean being complacent or apathetic but is more about recognizing when it is important to hold on and when we are better off letting go.  In our meditation this week let us examine whether there are emotional patterns we have held onto that are keeping us stuck and draining us of energy.  Let us ask instead that we be shown how to Flow in the midst of turbulence and accept the changes the currents may bring.

In our efforts this week let us also use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation let us re-energize the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am allowing myself to Flow easily with the currents of life and change?  How does it feel in my body when I realize it is easier to be carried by the Flow than to struggle against it?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 21, 2013

For this Sunday, April 21st, the focus for our meditation will be on Healing and Light.  This past week saw tragedy strike the city of Boston through a senseless act of apparent terrorism that killed four people, including a child, and grievously wounded scores more.  Somewhat eclipsed by the Boston situation was the explosion of a fertilizer plant in a small town called West, located in central Texas.  The massive explosion leveled houses as quickly as a tornado but with less warning and left over a dozen people dead and countless more injured and homeless.  For those who survived there are many long days ahead as they try to rebuild their lives.  The horrific wounds of those innocent bystanders in Boston now place them on an arduous path of slow recovery.  Those in West must deal with the destruction of homes and their livelihood along with injuries and the loss of loved ones.  As our nation watched these events unfold this week it is easy to feel helpless regardless of whether you are nearby or a few thousand miles away.  But we are never totally helpless for wherever we are and whatever circumstances we face we will always have recourse to the power of prayer.  This week let us specifically use the energy of our meditation to envelop the cities of Boston and West with Healing and Light.  Let us ask that the losses they face be eased with time and may the Healing power of Light help them in their recovery.  May the pain in their bodies and hearts be comforted, and may they be given the strength they will need to rebuild their lives.

In our efforts this week let us also use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation with special emphasis over the cities of Boston, Massachusetts and West, Texas.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am surrounded by the Healing energy of Light?  How does it feel in my body when I feel the strength and support that can come from Healing Light?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 14, 2013

For this Sunday, April 14th, the focus for our meditation will be on Vulnerability.  There is a wonderful TEDx talk by Dr. BrenĂ© Brown in which she speaks about the empowerment that comes from embracing one’s Vulnerability.  When we allow ourselves and others to see who we really are, warts and all, it enables us to establish healthier connections to others.  This takes courage, and Dr. Brown refers to the people who are able to do this as being “whole hearted,” meaning they have the compassion to be kind with themselves and others.  They don’t beat themselves up for mistakes or flaws but acknowledge them as they are and believe others will still love them regardless.  They see their Vulnerability as more of a positive than a negative quality and willingly accept it as an instrumental part of their being.  This week in our meditation let us examine whether there are aspects to who we are that we are afraid to show to others.  Let us then use the energy of our meditation to ask to be shown a way to accept this part of ourselves with compassion and understanding.  Once we can fully embrace our Vulnerability we may find the connections to others on which we thrive become enriched and grow beyond expectation.  Additionally, let us as that those who struggle with Vulnerability find the courage to be “whole hearted” with themselves in achieving acceptance and self-love.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am accepting of my flaws and embrace the Vulnerability they create?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to be compassionate with myself and accept my Vulnerability without fear or judgment?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., April 7, 2013

For this Sunday, April 7th, the focus for our meditation will be on Networking.  A good friend recently sent me a link to a short video clip (see http://vimeo.com/63057782) about a remarkable group called MedMob.org.  Their goal is to organize meditation flash mobs in cities around the world and inspire entire communities to engage in simultaneous public meditation in order to promote peace.  In our meditation work this week I would like us to focus on an awareness of all the other meditation groups acting through different communities to bring peace into the world.  We may be spread across the country (and world) and engaging in meditation at different times, but there is an energetic connection or Network that eventually unifies all of our efforts.  At the bottom of the Meditation Project blog (meditationproject.blogspot.com) and on the MedMob.org’s page is the same image of intuitive artist Alex Grey’s “Theologue” painting.  Grey’s work depicts the Network of connections that energetically link all beings.  This week as we enter into our meditation let us consciously ask to be Networked to all others engaged in prayer and meditation around the world.  As we connect to each other through this vast Network let us ask that our energies be multiplied and ultimately enhance our efforts to spread more peace across the land.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I recognize the presence of a Network that energetically connects us all?  How does it feel in my body when I am aware of the Network of others engaged in meditation across different times and locations?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
