Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 24, 2013

For this Sunday, February 24th, the focus for our meditation will be on Bearing.  An acquaintance recently told me a story of her experience during military training.  The company of officers was undergoing advanced training for many weeks at a post far from home.  During the course it came to their training commander’s attention that several officers had given in to the temptations that can occur with family separations and engaged in conduct unbecoming their rank.  The commander called an assembly on the parade ground, and as each officer stood in formation an orderly passed up and down the ranks handing each officer a paper bag with the top twisted shut.  As the commander addressed the officers he told them the paper bag contained a single metal ball bearing.  He had become aware of numerous instances of misconduct and was using this to emphasize the importance of Bearing.  For the duration of training the officers were told they had to keep the metal ball bearing on their person at all times as a constant reminder of their need to maintain their Bearing.  The word “Bearing” can mean composure or carriage but also implies direction as in one’s moral compass.  In our prayer and meditation this week let us use this story to assess our own behavior as well as that of our nation.  In particular, have we over time somehow lost our Bearing?  Let us ask that we be shown the right moral direction for our own lives and for the future of this country so that we may maintain the Bearing that reflects our higher selves.

In our efforts this week let us also use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation let us re-energize the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I have a clear sense of the importance of Bearing in my life?  How does it feel in my body when I know I am on the right Bearing in my conduct?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 17, 2013

For this Sunday, February 17th, the focus for our meditation will be on Solitude.  Although we are social beings there are times when having moments of Solitude can be beneficial.  Finding a place and time to isolate oneself from the bustle and noise that tends to surround us can help reduce stress and quiet the mind.  When we allow this internal quietude to be present it can bring access to deeper insights that might go unheard in more clamorous settings.  Jesus sought Solitude during several phases in his life, most notably during the 40 days and 40 nights spent in isolation in the desert.  This enforced period of Solitude is mirrored in many traditions around the world, and it is during these moments that we can most clearly hear the voice of God.  This week in our meditation let us consider whether might be in need of more times of Solitude in our life.  If we were to find a moment to open ourselves up to the benefits of Solitude what insights might we want to receive?

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am experiencing moments of complete Solitude?  How does it feel in my body when I recognize the benefits of taking occasional time for Solitude in my busy life?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 10, 2013

For this Sunday, February 10th, the focus for our meditation will be on Safety.  With a potentially historic winter storm bearing down on New England and the New York and New Jersey areas this weekend I would like to ask that our Meditation Project members send the energy of their prayers and meditation to that region in advance of our usual Sunday gathering time.  There are likely to be hazardous road conditions, high winds, significant snowfall, power outages, and the associated dangers they bring to residents in that region.  Additionally, in the New York and New Jersey areas, still trying to rebuild from Hurricane Sandy, there is the further threat of more flood damage.  Let us ask that the effects of the storm be lessened, and may all people be kept Safe and protected during the storm.  Also, may those first responders who must work in dangerous conditions to keep the roadways clear, restore power, and provide needed emergency services be supported by the light of our meditation so they may be kept Safe from harm.

In our efforts this week let us also use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation with a particular focus on the Northeast region.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I know I am Safe and protected?  How does it feel in my body when I appreciate the value of having Safety during hazardous situations?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., February 3, 2013

For this Sunday, February 3rd, the focus for our meditation will be to Humanize.   A 2012 movie titled, “The Invisible War,” revealed the disturbing statistics and stories regarding the prevalence of female rape in the military.  This predatory and abusive treatment has become so common that “military sexual trauma,” or MST, is now the leading cause of PTSD in female veterans.  As the film shows this activity is not about sexual attraction gone awry but rather a reflection of the dehumanization that some would say is typical of a combat environment.  While sexual assault under any situation is abhorrent there is a particularly disturbing aspect to the apparent frequency of condoned cover-ups by those in command.  Recent news reports regarding efforts to conceal such criminal activity on military bases disclose the hostility victims face should they choose to report the abuse.  Since it is believed that less than 15 percent of victims file a report the Department of Defense subsequently estimates that almost 20,000 sexual assaults occur each year in the military.  In our prayer and meditation this week let us ask that all military women be kept safe from assault and that those who would prey on them see them not as objects but as Humanized individuals. Additionally, let us ask that those in command accept responsibility for the safety and security of all female troops who serve in their ranks and help foster a culture that brings to justice those who would prey on others.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I appreciate the importance of Humanizing members of the opposite sex?  How does it feel in my body when I desire to be Humanized as an individual rather than objectified?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
