For this Sunday, January 19th, the focus for our meditation will be on
Listening. A number of years ago I was madly trying to maintain an insanely busy schedule. I was traveling overseas several times a month, working part-time as a consultant in addition to a demanding full-time job, and going through the process of selling a home and getting ready to move. The first signal that I was perhaps overloading my life was when I backed the car into the garage door one morning after having forgotten to raise it. The second signal was when I experienced a slipped disk in my neck after lifting heavy boxes, triggering the first visit to an emergency room. Despite these two warning signs I soldiered on, determined to get everything done myself. The third warning was when I had an unfortunate encounter with a bungee cord that resulted in a second emergency room visit in a week and almost led to the loss of an eye. It was while I was confined to strict bed rest following this third incident that my brother, who thankfully appeared on my doorstep to help finish the household move, made the sage comment, “God whispers to us first, and if we don’t
Listen, he starts yelling.” Those words have stayed with me ever since, and whenever I recognize a “warning” sign that appears in my life I have learned to
Listen by stopping and assessing what may have become out of balance. It is so easy to try to shoehorn more and more into our busy schedules, driving us to keep such a frenetic pace that we don’t take time to pause and
Listen to Spirit (or God, or the Divine, however you wish to refer to this universal power). There are many ways that Spirit tries to gently get our attention. One of my favorite signals is whenever duplicates of the same numeral appear – e.g., when a digital clock reads “11:11” or “3:33.” It serves as a pleasant reminder to stop and
Listen for a moment to receive what Spirit wants to reveal. This week in our prayer and meditation let us take time to pause and discover that inner quiet that allows us to truly
Listen to what Spirit has to say. Let us consider whether we are able to actually
Listen and be receptive to all that Spirit is willing to disclose to us.
In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation. As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create. Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it. Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country. From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.
Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.
Ask yourself how do I feel when I am able to find that inner quiet that heightens my ability to
Listen? How does it feel in my body when I take time to
Listen to the world around me in order to hear a message from Spirit? Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.
Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
