Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 27, 2018

For this Sunday, May 27th, the focus for our meditation will be on Perseverance.  This Memorial Day weekend we pause to commemorate our fallen military who died in service to their country.  Many tales of their heroism convey the depths of their Perseverance as they remained undaunted by unimaginable challenges.  Time and again stories of being vastly outnumbered, suffering from wounds and the attrition of their military unit, or facing desperate situations these brave heroes managed to set aside their fears and Persevere despite the odds.  Some did live to tell their tale, but their body and mind bear witness to the scars of their experience.  Others paid the ultimate sacrifice, and the full account of their exploits may never be known.  While some might flippantly attribute sheer luck to their survival it becomes clear their unwillingness to concede defeat likely played a much greater role.  Most of us thankfully will never find ourselves in such dire circumstances that our actual life is at stake.  Instead we have a lifetime of other challenges and disappointments we must navigate; the mundane stressors of work, school and family life that can still take us down.  This weekend in our prayer and meditation time let us ponder the tenacity and Perseverance demonstrated by our fallen military and seek to emulate their courage in our daily life.  Let us ask to be filled with an abundance of inspiration and hope in the face of life’s problems that give us the Perseverance needed to overcome all trials.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have been able to summon the courage to Persevere in the face of a challenge?  How does it feel in my body when I remain undaunted by difficulties and am able to Persevere to find solutions?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 20, 2018

For this Sunday, May 20th, the focus for our meditation will be on Groundedness.  Our increasing reliance on electronic devices has not only disconnected us from each other but also lessened our connection to the earth.  There are constant calls for us to preserve, honor and respect the earth, but how can we do so if we cannot feel our connection to her?  There is a trend in healing called “earthing” that uses various methods to increase our physical and energetic connection to the earth in order to promote or speed healing.  The Japanese have a practice known as “forest bathing” which has become a key part of their natural approach to health.  Spending time in nature, such as taking a walk through the woods, helps reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve mood, among other benefits.  There are many things creating tension and anxiety in our nation, and no one solution will fix them all.  To heal these ills that plague us will require a mosaic of approaches, one of which is to improve our sense of Groundedness and thus enhance our connectedness with not only the earth but with each other.  If we can feel a stronger connection with the earth it will bring us the centered calmness we need to improve our relationships with others as well.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us ask for greater Groundedness to help heal not only ourselves but also our nation.  Let us ask that all people across this country come to better appreciate their bond with the energy of the earth and carry that same sense of Groundedness into all aspects of their life.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I am aware of how beneficial it is to be fully aware of my energetic connection with the earth that brings me to a state of Groundedness?  How does it feel in my body when I appreciate that being fully Grounded helps me strengthen my connections to the earth and to others?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 13, 2018

For this Sunday, May 13th, the focus for our meditation will be on being Stalwart.  The exploitation of fear in a populace is a timeless tactic used by those who wish to manipulate the thinking of others.  It is easier to influence the decision-making process by persuading people there is a vaguely-defined threat that makes them flee toward a position they might otherwise never take than it is to try and reason with them.  Such was the ammunition of the Inquisition, the Salem witch trials, and countless other despicable periods in human history when a group of people tried to dominate the thinking of others.  In modern times we encounter this regularly in political campaigns when a candidate seeks to gain votes not by proving their merit but by instead disparaging their opponent and driving fear into the hearts of voters as to what will happen if the other individual is elected.  All sides can and have played this game; it is not the sole bastion of one particular group or political party or even nation.  The antidote to such manipulation is to remain Stalwart in the face of an unknown or ill-defined threat.  Rather than over-react in the face of ambiguity it is best to remain firm and summon the courage to explore the unknown.  In other words, before we engage in a knee-jerk reaction based in fear we would be better served to stay neutral and first try to learn more about the issue.  Through the objective examination of all sides may we then be suitably armed to make a more informed decision.  The challenge can be to stave off the feelings of panic some can try to induce to prevent people from looking too closely into the real facts.  They attempt to create a false sense of urgency so we become tempted to skip the careful thought process and just react.  However, if we can remain calm and courageous we are less vulnerable to such manipulation.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us ask that this nation find the means to remain Stalwart in the face of efforts to incite fear and manipulate our thinking.  May all be willing to pause before making a critical decision and take time to carefully consider all the facts.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I am able to remain Stalwart in the face of an unknown threat?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to suppress feelings of panic and become Stalwart to take time and think before acting?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 6, 2018

For this Sunday, May 6th, the focus for our meditation will be on Catharsis.  One of the definitions of the complex process of Catharsis describes it as the “purification and purgation of emotions that results in renewal and restoration.”  It is interesting to consider in contrast that blind rage would likely never lead to renewal or restoration.  Nor would pent-up anger or hatred or other repressed negative emotions be capable of providing any sense of rejuvenation.   The key to Catharsis is that the emotion, whether positive or negative (often the latter), must be released.  It is through the process of dissipating those feelings that we feel purified and cleansed.  However, one of the problems is we can have a sense of shame or guilt at the expression of negative emotions.  Some people find it very difficult to cry.  Others castigate themselves after they erupt in anger.  We are all human, and none of us is immune to experiencing the baser, negative emotions.  Even Jesus became angry at the moneychangers in the temple and overturned their tables in a fit of pique.  Would any of us consider ourselves to be above such a display and never lose control under similar circumstances?  Life is challenging, and there are moments when we may have unpleasant thoughts and emotions bubble up inside.  Rather than try to contain or deny them, we may be best served by allowing ourselves to vent in a healthy fashion.  Whether through the outlet of physical activity, complaining to a trusted friend, or writing an email that we delete instead of sending, we all need some means to let go on occasion.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us ask whether we are generous enough with ourselves to allow Catharsis to occur without feelings of guilt or shame.  Let us ask to be gently guided to healthy release mechanisms that provide the renewal and purification that only a needed Catharsis can bring.  By discovering the value of Catharsis in our own lives may we also be willing to serve as patient listeners who allow others to find their own means of release without fear of judgment.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have experienced a Catharsis that cleansed me of an emotion in a healthy way?  How does it feel in my body when I allow myself the release of Catharsis that brings a sense of purification and renewal?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
