Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 26, 2013

For this Sunday, May 26th, the focus for our meditation will be on Honor.  This coming Monday we pause as a nation to commemorate our fallen veterans on the Memorial Day holiday.  When we consider the sacrifice made by all our veterans, particularly those who gave their life in service to their country, a single day each year to Honor them seems so insufficient.  Let us consider this week how else we might Honor them through simple acts of intention done more regularly.  This can be something as uncomplicated as saying a prayer in remembrance of those who have passed in service.  Consider visiting a local graveyard where military personnel are buried and perhaps Honor their gravesite with flowers or even just a note of gratitude that you leave there.  Better yet, I’m sure they would appreciate being Honored through an act that benefits those who follow them in service today.  There are many organizations that provide assistance to our service men and women, such as the USO, Soldier’s Angels, Adopt A Soldier, etc.  It would be a tremendous way to Honor those who have gone before by making a donation of time, money, or other resources that helps these groups ease the life of our military personnel.  In our prayer and meditation this week let us ask that all military personnel be given the Honor they deserve for their sacrifice and may all come to appreciate the sacrifice they have made to keep our nation safe.

In our efforts this week let us also use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation let us re-energize the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I recognize and Honor the sacrifice made by our military personnel?  How does it feel in my body when I take some action to Honor another person?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 19, 2013

For this Sunday, May 19th, the focus for our meditation will be on Presence.  Lalage Snow is a British photographer and journalist who served an embedded tour with her country’s military over the course of four years in Iraq and Afghanistan.  During that time she took individual portraits of several service men and women before, during and after their deployments.  The changes in their appearance are shocking, even haunting, and provide a vivid illustration of the impact of war on our young people.  [To see her photo portfolio go to http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2011/12/we-are-the-not-dead-soldiers-on-afghan-mission/].  Blank eyes stare out in the photographs, often sunken and lined with dark shadows.  For me, the post-war images show faces still etched with stress but equally disturbing is the sense that they are vacant inside.  It is as though each individual found their experiences so painful that they chose to withdraw inside to a remote place where they could no longer have to be Present and feel.  These images portray the wounds of the soul that go far beyond any physical injuries.  This week let us ask that the hidden, internal anguish of all military veterans be healed by the light of our prayer and meditation.  May we help fill them with the light and healing energy that will encourage them to become more Present in their bodies and give them the strength to fully embrace life once more.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am fully Present and comfortable in my body?  How does it feel when my senses are heightened through an awareness of my Presence in the physical world around me?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 12, 2013

For this Sunday, May 12th, the focus for our meditation will be on Expression.  There are many ways that people Express their spirituality or particular religious beliefs.  Some identify themselves with lapel pins or characteristic garb or attire that designates their affiliation with a specific faith.  While certain practices may be directed by one’s religion (e.g., the wearing of a yarmulke), for others how they Express their spirituality is entirely voluntary.  Would those who know you only casually have any idea as to your professed religion or spiritual foundations?  How do you Express your spirituality out in the world?  This can seem conflicting given the Biblical admonishment to not behave in a manner in public that is intended to give the appearance of false piety and righteousness.  The distinction is to not become sanctimonious by adopting an air of superiority as a result of what one believes is a “higher” level of spiritual development than those around us.  Yet, being a spiritually-minded person who operates in the world calls us to Express our spirituality.  We are called to demonstrate our spiritual beliefs through our conduct, our words, how we treat others, and how we behave in the world.  This week let us consider during our meditation how is it that we Express our spiritual nature in our everyday life?  What is it that we show to others through our behavior that serves as an Expression of what we believe so that we may perhaps inspire others?

Ask yourself how do I feel when I consciously behave in a manner that serves as a positive Expression of my spirituality?  How do I Express my spiritual nature through my words and conduct out in the world?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 5, 2013

For this Sunday, May 5th, the focus for our meditation will be on Achievement.  Many of us are uncomfortable with being self-promotional or “tooting our own horn.”  It is not always clear what prevents us from being more willing to publicly take credit for our Achievements.  Some may feel awkward doing something that is seen as feeding one’s ego, believing that we should instead suppress our ego and act in a manner that is more selfless.  However, there are times when stepping up and accepting the accolades of others may be motivational to those who try to follow in our footsteps.  When we have worked hard to accomplish something in our lives there is nothing inherently wrong with allowing recognition for what we have done.  Being open to receiving the praise of others may make us more aware of the need to extend praise to others when it is due.  There is much to be said about a world that is less quick to pass blame and criticism and more ready to acknowledge the positive contributions and Achievements of others.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us reflect on our accomplishments and be open-hearted and filled with esteem for all that we have thus far Achieved.  In addition, let us be grateful for the Achievements of this great nation with the expectation that they may serve as the building blocks for even better accomplishments in the future.

Ask yourself how do I feel when I am proud of how hard I have worked for my Achievements?  How does it feel in my body when I am filled with positive self-esteem for having extended the bounds of my Achievements?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
