Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 28, 2018

For this Sunday, January 28th, the focus for our meditation will be on Release.  In June 2010, a young man named Zak Anderegg was hiking alone in Arizona when he discovered a young puppy who had been intentionally abandoned to die in a canyon.  Horrified at the prospect of what this malnourished and dehydrated animal who was on the brink of death had been through, Zak managed to extricate him from a deep hole in the canyon and brought him to a vet for life-saving medical care.  At the time, he didn’t understand exactly why he felt so driven to do this for a dog he didn’t know, but eventually he came to realize the dog’s plight resonated with his own past.  Growing up, Zak was the target of extensive bullying and parental abuse.  His entire youth he felt isolated, unwanted, and rejected without a single peer or adult as an ally.  This abandoned dog mirrored all Zak had experienced at the hands of his abusers, and he was determined to change its fate and let it know someone cared.  Thankfully the dog survived, and Zak eventually captured their story in a book that became a best-seller, “Rescuing Riley, Saving Myself.”  As Riley and Zak bonded he was struck by how the dog was so readily willing to trust others and enjoy life.  It occurred to him that rather than cling to the trauma of its past or continue to identify as a victim, the dog simply Released what had happened and moved on.  In helping the dog to heal, Zak learned to Release his own past and heal the wounds of his childhood.  Even if you have not had to endure the sort of chronic mistreatment Zak experienced, we all have hurts, disappointments and some form of trauma to deal with in life.  The key to retaining a healthy perspective despite these struggles is to learn how to Release rather than cling to them.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us examine whether there are experiences in our past that we have been unwilling to shed.  Let us ask to be guided in how to gently Release any hurt that may persist so we are able to move forward and heal.  Through the powerful mechanism of Release may we be freed from our past and look with hope to the future.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have been able to Release past trauma rather than relive those hurts?  How does it feel in my body when I realize how the Release of my past frees me to focus more on the future?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 21, 2018

For this Sunday, January 21st, the focus for our meditation will be on the Subconscious.  I wonder how many of us, having with the best of intentions made New Year’s resolutions, already lapsed back into old habits?  Despite our conscious mind telling us all the good reasons why we should do something that is better for us, we can find it incredibly easy to rationalize away our motivation to follow through.  Researchers say that to truly change one’s behavior you need to engage the Subconscious mind.  While initially the adopted change in behavior may need to be directed consciously, the need for repetition is important to help embed the change more permanently.  Through repetition the desired behavior becomes more Subconscious, and we gradually evolve to reflexively perform the new behavior without having to think about it so much.  Another advantage to relying more on the Subconscious mind is it helps us continue to move forward in the face of confusion or fear.  When we feel threatened or our situation just isn’t making sense it is easy to want to freeze in place.  The Subconscious mind is what directs our instinct for survival, so in the presence of the unknown it pushes us to action.  It is as though the Subconscious mind holds more faith than the conscious mind, for it knows if we can just step beyond where we are now things will be better.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us reflect on better appreciating our Subconscious mind and all it does to help us, especially in uncertain times.  Let us ask to be guided how to rely more on the intuition that comes from our Subconscious mind and recognize how it can assist us in adapting better to change.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I trust and follow through on the instincts that come from my Subconscious mind?  How does it feel in my body when I rely more on my Subconscious mind to help direct my actions?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 14, 2018

For this Sunday, January 14th, the focus for our meditation will be on Retrospection.  This is the time of year when most people look forward to the new year that awaits to unfold before them.  Some may be particularly eager to put the previous year behind them, especially if it was filled with disappointment or challenges.  While there is a time and place for not lingering in the past, especially if it means revisiting old hurts or chastising oneself for failures, there is also some need for Retrospection.  Rather than rush ahead in our eagerness to see what the future brings, we may be well served to take some time to look back and reflect on where we have been.  Retrospection may mean acknowledging what we have accomplished, appreciating the new friendships we have formed, and allowing ourselves to understand just how far we have come.  If we rush ahead too quickly in our eagerness to start fresh with a new year we may neglect to give ourselves credit for the growth we have achieved.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us take time to look back on the past year in Retrospection and give ourselves a pat on the back for having made it to another milestone.  Let us find a way to appreciate even the struggles or challenges we may have faced for they often help us move forward.  Let us take a moment to recognize where we have been and ask to be shown how the past will help us ready ourselves for whatever the future may bring.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I take time for Retrospection to take stock of how far I have come?  How does it feel in my body when through a period of Retrospection I come to appreciate all that I have accomplished?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., January 7, 2018

For this Sunday, January 7th, the focus for our meditation will be on Resistance.  So many chapters in history would have been written very differently if good people remained totally passive and allowed darkness to persist in the world.  Time and again the tide has been turned against evil because of those who wisely chose to Resist what others were willing to tolerate or ignore.  The challenge comes not only in summoning the courage to stand up but to also know what is the optimal way to Resist.  Some people choose to muster support by adopting a specific look to their social media profile such as displaying a common color or graphic.  Others prefer to make picket signs and publicly march in protest.  In either case they serve to help raise awareness, but at some point a much deeper level of commitment is required.  Effective Resistance needs to move beyond ranting against a wrong and instead move toward a positive solution.  Venting about something that disturbs you might temporarily make you feel better, but it doesn’t do much in the way of bringing any resolution to the problem.  Rather than stopping at merely raising awareness we may be better served by asking what we can do to more clearly inform and educate people about the situation for only then will others be willing to join in unity in Resistance.  That is the level of commitment where real change can take place.  This week in our prayer and meditation let us ask whether we are contributing in a positive way to bring more light to the problems of our world.  Let us ask to be shown how to engage in Resistance that is non-violent yet effective in moving conflict toward enduring solutions.  May the light of our prayers help support all those who have the courage to speak out against the darkness, and may they find the wisdom to recognize the best path of Resistance to take for the higher good of all.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have experienced Resistance that successfully brought about a positive change?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to speak out against the darkness and participate in Resistance that is effective and beneficial for us all?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.
