Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 29, 2016

For this Sunday, May 29th, the focus for our meditation will be on Clemency.  The quality of Clemency refers to the ability to be compassionate but also implies the willingness to be lenient and merciful in how we judge others.  I heard a real-life story recently about a police officer who purposely falsified evidence to boost arrest statistics even though it meant the conviction of completely innocent people.  An individual who had been wrongly incarcerated because of this officer’s unethical conduct was released after several years when his dishonesty was revealed.  The former police officer ended up having to also serve time for his crime and upon his parole found himself working at a job that helped reintegrate prisoners into society.  To his chagrin the young man he had wrongly put behind bars was also employed there.  The situation held all the potential for conflict, but when the former police officer sought to offer a sincere apology for what he had done he was amazed to find it genuinely accepted by the other man.  It was the choice of this young man to gracefully accept the apology, even though what had happened had caused him much damage in his life.  When asked for an explanation he said he needed to extend true forgiveness not for his sake, nor for the other man’s sake, but for the benefit of both of them.  This reminds us that Clemency or forgiveness is a two-way street.  While one person extends an olive branch in the form of an apology, there is an equal burden on the recipient as to how they choose to respond.  Some might say he should have continued to feel resentful and judged the peace attempt as insincere or one intended only to make the bearer feel better.  However, if the victim in this case chose that route it would have placed him in the position of being judgmental and unforgiving.  Both then become inexorably bound to the injustice, never to be freed from its chains.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us look over those times when we have been wounded by others and ask if we have been gracious enough to feel real Clemency toward them.  Rather than encumber ourselves with judgment and resentment, let us ask to be lifted from that load and guided toward a position of genuine forgiveness that frees us both through the amazing power of Clemency.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have been truly willing to extend genuine Clemency for another person?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to release myself from judgment and offer Clemency for those who may have hurt me?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 22, 2016

For this Sunday, May 22nd, the focus for our meditation will be on Uncertainty. Many of us spend so much effort in our life seeking certainty, but it is often a waste of time and energy.  We cling to always wanting to know what to expect, to feel in charge, but we are fooling ourselves if we believe even for a moment that we are total masters of our own destiny.  One of the things life excels at is to present us with the unknown, to give us challenges, and to push us, often reluctantly, into a place of Uncertainty where we may feel disoriented and not in control.  While we are not masters of our own fate, neither are we entirely at the whim of random chance events.  There is a middle ground, where we have free will to exercise options, but we are required to learn that these choices must often be made in the absence of all the information we might want in order to make an “informed” decision.  We are only informed to the extent that we need to be, and must learn how to gain comfort with discomfort and how to feel knowledgeable in the absence of all the information.  When we realize Uncertainty is a regular occurrence in life and can even serve a beneficial purpose, it can help us let go of the need to be more in control.  When I am in control I like to delude myself into thinking I can see the right path to follow, even though I likely don’t have all the information I need to make the best choice.  When I become at ease with Uncertainty I am more willing to accept that what I know is imperfect and incomplete and to instead give over more trust to the spiritual world to offer guidance as to what is best for me to do.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us consider ways that we may have an opportunity to learn how to become more accepting of Uncertainty.  Let us ask to be shown how to operate with faith and confidence in the face of the unknown and allow Uncertainty to gently prod us into accepting more spiritual assistance in our life.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I am able to find comfort in the face of Uncertainty in my life?  How does it feel in my body when I become more reliant on spiritual guidance in moments of Uncertainty rather than my own imperfect knowing?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 15, 2016

For this Sunday, May 15th, the focus for our meditation will be on Balance. Have you ever had a profound spiritual experience such as might happen if you attended a religious weekend retreat and then found it difficult to reintegrate back into the real world?  These experiences teach us that the mundane world and the spiritual world are not entirely separate from each other.  Rather than feeling they are an “either-or” option we want to recognize that we can feel present and connected to our routine, daily environment and that special spiritual domain simultaneously.  Just as we might straddle a line between the edge of a river and the adjoining bank we can be in Balance with one foot on earth and the other foot in the spiritual realm at the same time.  When we are aware of the Balance that can exist between these two worlds it allows us to feel the synergy of their presence and appreciate what each offers us.  Depending on the circumstances, there may be moments when one appears to contribute more than the other, but both provide us with the various elements of sustenance we need to go through our daily life.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us consider how we maintain a Balance between the spiritual world and our everyday world.  Let us ask to be assisted to feel the connection that can be present simultaneously between the two and be shown ways to better Balance our presence in both domains.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I recognize the Balance that exists in my connection to the spiritual world and a physical one?  How does it feel in my body when I am aware of being simultaneously connected and in Balance between two realms?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.

Meditation Instructions for Sun., May 8, 2016

For this Sunday, May 8th, the focus for our meditation will be on Communion. While most probably think of Communion as a religious sacrament it also refers to a deep connection or sharing with others, especially on a spiritual level.  We are by nature social beings, and our connection to others helps bring meaning to our life.  There are many opportunities for casual or superficial connections with others.  However, where we gain the greatest satisfaction is in establishing more meaningful relationships through Communion with those with whom we share a bond of spiritual intimacy.  These connections can deepen our own faith and strengthen our bond with God.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us consider how we engage in spiritual fellowship with others in our life.  May we be given opportunity for deeper Communion with those who share our thirst for spiritual development.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I am able to find spiritual Communion with others?  How does it feel in my body when I appreciate the profound benefits of Communion that come from spiritual fellowship?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
