Meditation Instructions for Sun., March 19, 2017

For this Sunday, March 19th, the focus for our meditation will be on Exploration.  The first successful attempt to summit the top of Annapurna, a Himalayan mountain peak in Nepal, occurred in June 1950 by a French expedition.  The team consisted of experienced alpine climbers, but it still took about two months from when they began their trek toward Annapurna before they reached the top.  Since they were the first team to make the attempt they operated with limited foreknowledge of how to make the best approach.  Maps that had been roughly sketched of the area were often inaccurate, and the climbers had to break into groups to perform lengthy reconnaissance just to determine which face of the mountain showed the best route and even how to approach the base to begin a climb.  Many attempts were made that were unsuccessful before they finally chose the route that eventually led them to the top.  Before then, the vast majority of the expedition’s time was spent in failure and disappointment.  In many ways life reflects their adventure in that we often need to try things with an attitude of Exploration that presumes if we are not successful we will still gain valuable knowledge from the experience.  Sometimes, though, the fear of failure can hold us back from even being willing to Explore an unknown direction.  As a result, we never take that first step.  We cling instead to what is comfortable and known, but that prevents us from achieving growth.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us ask to be given the courage to Explore what we may have hesitated to try in our life.  May we recall the intrepid Explorers who have gone before us and learn from their experiences how to succeed in the face of the unknown.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have been brave enough to Explore unfamiliar territory in my life?  How does it feel in my body when I have attained success through Exploration of things I was hesitant to try before?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
