Meditation Instructions for Sun., October 25, 2020

For this Sunday, October 25th, the focus for our meditation will be on Commonality.  There is so much trying to divide into separate camps, and if we allow it to happen, we will only be weakened as a nation.  This time of national elections is proving to be especially polarizing.  It is easy to get drawn into debate and to want to take sides.  But we want to resist that temptation by focusing more on what we share in Common with each other rather than our differences.  See if there is anything at all you can find in Common with someone whose political views are different from yours.  It may be difficult at first, so try choosing topics that are easier and more benign.  Perhaps you both like the same color.  Maybe there is a performer whose music or acting you both really enjoy.  You might even both agree that all children should have enough to eat.  Then again, that last topic might be straying into delicate territory for some!  So, keep it simple, and really think hard about what you can identify that you both have in Common.  We are going to need this strategy once the election is over, for our bonds of friendship and family ties don’t need to be broken because we may have voted for different candidates.  We are going to need each other more than ever to heal our families, our communities, and our nation.  This week in our prayer and meditation time let us ask to be reminded of all the things we share in Common with those whose connection to us may be strained by political differences.  May the light and energy of our prayers help us recognize the importance of being united with Common interests so we may set aside any basis for division.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I recognize that I share something in Common with someone who is different from me?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to set aside any differences and focus on what we have in Common?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
