For this Sunday, February 16th, the focus for our meditation
will be on Patience. Two unrelated incidents
involving shootings have caused a great deal of controversy in our nation. In one, a man was shot while texting in a
movie theater. In another, a man was
shot after someone objected to the loud music blaring from his car. Two lives were lost but even more lives were
ruined when you consider the consequences for the perpetrators, as well as how they
have drastically altered the life of the loved ones left behind from such
tragedies. From the clarity provide by
hindsight neither incident makes any sense whatsoever. However, I can certainly relate to the
initial moment of irritation they may have produced. People who use their phones in a darkened
movie theater do create a distraction for those around them. I have also felt the annoyance of having my
teeth vibrate from an unbelievably loud nearby car stereo. But neither incident deserves the level of
response they subsequently generated. It
is so easy in our hectic world to allow ourselves to be irritated at what we
perceive to be the inconsiderate behavior of others but letting that serve as
an impetus for violence is never acceptable.
Rather than leap to a very regrettable action we would be far better
served to pause, take a deep breath, and ask for Patience. Every single one
of us can likely identify with the victims and the accused. We have all done things we later realized may
have been inconsiderate, and we have all found ourselves aggravated by others for
little cause. This nation is in
desperate need of more Patience to
avoid similar violent acts. In our
prayer and meditation let us consider those times when we have been quick to
judge and allow our tempers to flare, and let us ask for an increase in Patience to instead subdue those
feelings. Let all people across this
nation be filled with the capacity for greater Patience and understanding so such tragedies may be averted.
In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the
energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills
this nation. As we perform our
meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of
the light we create. Just as before,
begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost
impossible to look directly at it. Raise
this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down
to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch
of our country. From shore to shore and
border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense
light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country
and the people who live across its vast lands.
Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in
your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us,
and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.
Ask yourself how do I feel when I pause before acting and
replace irritation with Patience? How does it feel in my body when I am able to
subdue my initial annoyance at a situation with greater Patience? Then send the
energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.
Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express
thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
