For this Sunday, January 28th, the focus for
our meditation will be on Release. In June 2010, a young man named Zak Anderegg
was hiking alone in Arizona when he discovered a young puppy who had been
intentionally abandoned to die in a canyon.
Horrified at the prospect of what this malnourished and dehydrated
animal who was on the brink of death had been through, Zak managed to extricate
him from a deep hole in the canyon and brought him to a vet for life-saving
medical care. At the time, he didn’t understand
exactly why he felt so driven to do this for a dog he didn’t know, but eventually
he came to realize the dog’s plight resonated with his own past. Growing up, Zak was the target of extensive bullying
and parental abuse. His entire youth he
felt isolated, unwanted, and rejected without a single peer or adult as an ally. This abandoned dog mirrored all Zak had
experienced at the hands of his abusers, and he was determined to change its
fate and let it know someone cared.
Thankfully the dog survived, and Zak eventually captured their story in
a book that became a best-seller, “Rescuing Riley, Saving Myself.” As Riley and Zak bonded he was struck by how
the dog was so readily willing to trust others and enjoy life. It occurred to him that rather than cling to
the trauma of its past or continue to identify as a victim, the dog simply Released
what had happened and moved on. In helping
the dog to heal, Zak learned to Release his own past and heal the wounds
of his childhood. Even if you have not had
to endure the sort of chronic mistreatment Zak experienced, we all have hurts,
disappointments and some form of trauma to deal with in life. The key to retaining a healthy perspective
despite these struggles is to learn how to Release rather than cling to
them. This week in our prayer and
meditation time let us examine whether there are experiences in our past that
we have been unwilling to shed. Let us
ask to be guided in how to gently Release any hurt that may persist so
we are able to move forward and heal. Through
the powerful mechanism of Release may we be freed from our past and look
with hope to the future.
In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the
energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills
this nation. As we perform our
meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of
the light we create. Just as before,
begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost
impossible to look directly at it. Raise
this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down
to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch
of our country. From shore to shore and
border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense
light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country
and the people who live across its vast lands.
Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in
your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us,
and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.
Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have been able
to Release past trauma rather than relive
those hurts? How does it feel in my body when I realize how the Release of my past frees me to focus
more on the future? Then send the energy and intention of those feelings
to the nation.
Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express
thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
