For this Sunday, February 3rd, the focus for our meditation
will be to Humanize. A 2012 movie titled, “The Invisible War,”
revealed the disturbing statistics and stories regarding the prevalence of
female rape in the military. This
predatory and abusive treatment has become so common that “military sexual
trauma,” or MST, is now the leading cause of PTSD in female veterans. As the film shows this activity is not about
sexual attraction gone awry but rather a reflection of the dehumanization that
some would say is typical of a combat environment. While sexual assault under any situation is
abhorrent there is a particularly disturbing aspect to the apparent frequency
of condoned cover-ups by those in command.
Recent news reports regarding efforts to conceal such criminal activity
on military bases disclose the hostility victims face should they choose to
report the abuse. Since it is believed
that less than 15 percent of victims file a report the Department of Defense
subsequently estimates that almost 20,000 sexual assaults occur each year in
the military. In our prayer and
meditation this week let us ask that all military women be kept safe from
assault and that those who would prey on them see them not as objects but as Humanized individuals. Additionally,
let us ask that those in command accept responsibility for the safety and
security of all female troops who serve in their ranks and help foster a
culture that brings to justice those who would prey on others.
In our efforts this week let us also use the energy of our
prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this
nation. As we perform our meditation let
us re-energize the brilliance and power of the light we create. Begin by forming a concentrated ball of light
that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it. Raise this sphere of light up high over the
nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome
of light that completely covers every inch of our country. From shore to shore and border to border let
the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve
to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who
live across its vast lands.
Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your
body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and
connect to the circle of others participating in this project.
Ask yourself how do I feel when I appreciate the importance of Humanizing members of the opposite sex? How does it feel in my body when I desire to be Humanized as an individual rather than objectified? Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.
Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
