For this Sunday, July 3rd, the focus for our
meditation will be on Unexpectedness. A couple of months ago I went on a spiritual
pilgrimage to France with some friends.
Our itinerary was almost entirely focused on sacred sites in various
parts of the country, and we eagerly planned for the trip for months in
anticipation of the spiritual experiences that awaited us. To our surprise, some of the most profound
spiritual insights happened not at the famous, well-known locales on our list
but Unexpectedly occurred at small,
obscure out-of-the way places that we often just stumbled upon. Life reminds us in this way that when we try
to stick too closely to some plan we think we have mapped out for our life it
can interfere with our ability to be spontaneous and experience the Unexpected. To be open to the Unexpected may require us to let go of our need for control. When you think about our obsession over planning
our life it is mostly delusional anyway; it only occasionally fools us into
believing we ever have control. When we
come to that realization it can free us from this compulsion and allow us to be
more receptive to things that may be Unexpected
but end up being even better than we ever could have imagined. This week in our prayer and meditation let us
ask to be gently shown how to welcome the Unexpected
in our life. Let us look at where we may
be clinging to control and allow ourselves to relax and let go so experiences
that are beyond our ability to envision can occur when we least Expect them but perhaps are most ready
to receive them.
In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the
energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills
this nation. As we perform our
meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of
the light we create. Just as before,
begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost
impossible to look directly at it. Raise
this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down
to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch
of our country. From shore to shore and
border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense
light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country
and the people who live across its vast lands.
Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in
your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us,
and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.
Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I have
experienced something completely Unexpected
that benefited me beyond what I may have imagined? How does it feel in my body when I am able to
let go of control and am willing to be more open to receive the Unexpected gifts and experiences life
may bring me? Then send the energy and
intention of those feelings to the nation.
Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express
thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
