Meditation Instructions for Sun., June 24, 2018

For this Sunday, June 24th, the focus for our meditation will be on Compassion.  It is easy to have Compassion for those who are innocent and find themselves caught up in unfortunate circumstances.  I can’t imagine anyone seeing the images of young children separated from their families not being moved to have Compassion for them.  But what about the enforcement officials charged with protecting a nation against clear dangers such as terrorism and the trafficking of drugs, arms or other human beings?  Most probably lump them all into a single category of cold-hearted thugs who should be reviled.  Having served in law enforcement I can guarantee you that broad brush is not an accurate portrayal of all who take on that important task.  No doubt there are officers who go home at the end of a shift completely torn up by what they saw while on duty.  Efforts to equate them to evil Nazis rely on ad hominem and specious appeals to emotion rather than acknowledge the situation is more complex than most realize.  I am not happy with recent events, but I also know there are more sides to a story than what makes for a good sound bite or news headline.  Rather than leap too quickly to castigate the officials directed to carry out regulations that are constantly in a state of flux and reinterpretation let us pause and consider whether they, too, are deserving of some Compassion.  If we only offer Compassion selectively then we are falling short of the real meaning of Compassion.  Instead of rushing to find fault or blame let us pray that those individuals be given the strength to carry out their duties with Compassion for those they encounter.  May we come to realize all are deserving of Compassion and may our prayers enable those charged with the protection of our borders to act with clarity of judgment and fairness.  With the strength of these prayers may our nation be lifted up so the best resolution to our current painful circumstances is found.

In our efforts this week let us also continue to use the energy of our prayers and meditation to amplify the light that covers and fills this nation.  As we perform our meditation this week let us begin by re-energizing the brilliance and power of the light we create.  Just as before, begin by forming a concentrated ball of light that is so bright it is almost impossible to look directly at it.  Raise this sphere of light up high over the nation and then let its rays cascade down to create a solid, impenetrable dome of light that completely covers every inch of our country.  From shore to shore and border to border let the entire continent be filled with this brilliant, dense light that will serve to magnify the best and highest qualities of our country and the people who live across its vast lands.

Please follow the same practice as before: Get centered in your body, ask to bring in your guides and others who are there to assist us, and connect to the circle of others participating in this project.

Ask yourself what do I feel in my body when I appreciate how all are deserving of Compassion?  How does it feel in my body when I am able to have Compassion for even those with whom I do not agree?  Then send the energy and intention of those feelings to the nation.

Be sure to disconnect from the circle at the end and express thanks for those who have helped us in this effort.
